Case Study Details

All attendees are required to present a seizure-related clinical case during their assigned case study breakout session. Your case should include:

  • Your name and training program


  • Description of seizure


  • Seizure history (precipitating factors, related injuries, doses of current and previous AEDs, incidence of status epilepticus)


  • Past medical history (birth history, allergies, psychiatric history, family history of seizures, vocational and educational history)


  • Neurological examination–positive findings


  • Diagnostic studies (imaging, previous EEGs, related laboratory studies)


  • Final diagnosis (confirmed or suspected) and/or resolution of actual case




Other helpful information:

  • All case study presentations must be submitted by: Friday, August 5th, in PowerPoint™ format and include EEG tracings.


  • Your presentation should include 6-8 slides, no more than 15 total will be allowed. In preparing your case study, please be considerate of others in your small group; you will have 10 minutes TOTAL for presentation and discussion, so that everyone will have the opportunity to present.


  • All residents attending the NRSP will have the opportunity to use a slide review room to prepare for their case presentations. Slides will be preloaded on available laptops. We will have A/V technicians and a neurology content support person available to assist you.


  • THE FINAL SLIDE IN YOUR DECK SHOULD INDICATE CONFIRMED OR SUSPECTED DIAGNOSIS OR RESOLUTION (i.e. the “answer” to your case scenario, if known).


  • Please do not use images that require third party software (such as TWinLOOK™ or EEG to Go™) because we will not be able to facilitate their use on-site.


  • In accordance with HIPAA requirements, please ensure patient confidentiality and keep all case materials free of any visible patient identification information (e.g., patient's name, SSN, etc.).
    If patients are visible in any of your material, you must submit a completed patient consent form to us before presenting your case on-site.


  • Video footage will be allowed for case studies if they enhance description of the scenario:
    • Video must be 1 minute or less in duration
    • Video must be in .mpg or .avi file format
    • Residents using video files should plan to arrive in time to take advantage of the on-site slide review room in the event files need to be abbreviated for time.




To upload your presentation/video:

  • Please make sure to submit your case study presentation in PowerPoint format by Friday, August 5th. An electronic submission process is available at http://www.ceconcepts.net/fileupload/. You must enter your email address and the passcode, NRSP2011, to upload your file. You will need to use the registration passcode, NRSP2011, to upload your presentation.


  • Please use your last name and the program which you will be representing when you save the presentation. (e.g. Smith.UnivofKY.ppt, Baker.Harvard.ppt)
